This portrait of Raven was quite a challenge for me, partly because it was intended to be a companion piece to go with my portrait of Shadow, which meant the paintings had to match very closely in style. The greater challenge, though, came from the photos of Raven I had to work with: the photo on the right below has plenty of detail, but my client chose the profile shot on the left for the primary pose, and the blurry quality of this reference picture left me guessing quite a bit about what Raven would actually look like from this perspective. This is one of those paintings, in fact, that I'll probably go back to at some point, as each portrait I finish helps me hone my skills, and I'm always curious to see what I could do with the tricky ones if I tackled them again!
